Generation Uncoupled
America's New Gender Divide and the Crisis of Human Connection
A new book by Daniel Cox

A generation drifting apart
Young men and women are growing apart. Dating, long-term partnership, and marriage are in decline, and a widening gender divide has left a generation less sure of what they want — or what's expected of them.
In Generation Uncoupled, Daniel Cox traces how an immersive digital culture, polarized politics, and over-structured childhoods have bred fear, resentment, and insecurity — and how rising social disconnection has only made things worse.
With rigor, compassion, and a refusal to take sides, this is not a book about blame. It's a call for a cultural reset: a clear-eyed account of how we got here, and what it would take to rebuild trust — between men and women, between left and right, and across generations.
The new gender divide
Why young men and young women are diverging on politics, values, and what they want from each other — and the rising hostility between them.
A crisis of connection
How digital life, declining friendship, and shrinking community have made it harder for a generation to form lasting bonds.
A path back
What it would take to rebuild social trust and civic life — not by taking sides, but by understanding how disconnection took hold.
Built on the evidence
Drawing on original national survey research and more than a hundred hours of conversations with young adults about sex, politics, ghosting, loneliness, social media, and friendship.
